Congestive heart failure or CHF is a chronic condition that affects the chambers of your heart where the syndrome can be brought by several causes. Congestive heart failure happen when the heart weakened by blood vessel problem or combination of several problems such as cardiomyopathy, toxic exposures, congenital heart disease, arrhythmias, high blood pressure etc. Those problems cause the ventricle cannot pump enough blood to the heart.
There are two types of congenital heart failure, the left-sided CHF, and right-sided CHF. The left-sided CHF is the common type of CHF where the left ventricles become damage and caused the blood to build up in the lungs and make it difficult to breathe. Below you will see the causes, the symptoms, and congestive heart failure treatment.
Congestive Heart Failure Causes
CHF can be because of the result of other health condition such s high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, and valve conditions. When your blood vessels blocked by the deposits of cholesterol it makes blood harder to pass and it will increase the blood pressure which will lead to CHF.
The restricting blood flow occurs when the small arteries (coronary artery) become narrow because of the cholesterol and fatty substances that block the arteries will cause the CHF. The blood flow that goes through your heart regulated by the valves and when the valves do not open or close correctly, it will force the ventricles to work harder to pump the blood.
The Congestive Heart Failure Symptoms
At the early stage you won’t feel anything but when it gets worse you will see some symptoms such as fatigue; your ankle, feet, and legs are swelling, you’ll gain some weight; you’ll pee more often especially at night.
And when your condition gets worse you’ll see symptoms such as irregular heartbeat, cough from congested lungs, and wheezing. There are advanced symptoms that require immediate medical care such as the pain in the chest, rapid breathing, and your skin turning blue and fainting.
The Risk Factors for Congestive Heart Failure
Based on the research it’s shown that one every five people have the risk of heart failure. The common risk factors include: age, hypertension, lack of physical activity, diabetes, obesity, smoking, family history, metabolic syndrome, coronary artery disease, high cholesterol, high fat, radiation or chemotherapy and alcohol consumption
The Congestive Heart Failure Treatments
The congestive heart failure treatment can be done by medication or by surgery. The medication that can be used for congestive heart failure treatments is the ACE (Angiotensin Converting Enzyme) Inhibitors, Beta-Blockers, and diuretics. The medication needed to help to control both the underlying causes of heart failure as well the symptoms. The changes in lifestyle are also needed to ease the symptoms.
If the medication didn’t affect much, the surgery may be needed for example the angioplasty where the doctor opens blocked-up arteries to help the blood flow or heart valve repair surgery to help the valves work properly. So, consult with your doctor for the congestive heart failure treatment and stay on healthy lifestyle track. Hope this article is helpful and useful for you.
